We all love a good before & after room makeover with crazy transformations, but let’s be real…
…that’s not always in the budget.
Not to mention the time that goes into a massive renovation.
Sometimes a quick refresh with a few small redecorating tweaks is all you need to give your space a fresh look.
It doesn’t have to be a whole room makeover all at once.
If you’re getting tired of the same layout, feeling meh about your current wall decor, or just need a general change of pace, these 5 quick & easy tips will help you update your home without spending a lot of money.
1. New Color for Your Walls
I’ve said it a million times, but a fresh coat of paint can completely transform your space.
If you have a room that just seems off, try giving it a fresh coat of paint.
It can completely make the space feel new again.
And if you aren’t sure of color just yet, fresh white walls are the simplest change you can make. These are my favorite white paint colors.

2. New Rug for Your Floor
I have a confession to make.
While I try to maintain a minimalist attitude towards most things, I have a weakness for rugs.
I love to swap out my rugs and am always hunting for steals when the major sales hit.
Rugs can tie a room together as they add warmth and help define spaces.
Adding a fresh rug can create a whole new look.
Tip: I love layering my large jute rug underneath a smaller rug. That way I can keep my rug multiples limited to just a few different styles of the smaller size rug.
This makes it easy to swap out the top rug for a different color/design when I’m giving the room a little refresh, but it’s also more affordable since the smaller size rugs cost less.
3. Add a New Piece of Art
For an easy way to refresh a room, try swapping out your artwork.
Think outside the box and search for art at garage sales or even DIY your own!
Need a major update? Try an oversized piece of artwork that makes a statement.
Or group together a few new pieces into a gallery wall. (Use one of my go-to gallery wall layouts.)
4. Rearrange Your Furniture
I’ve always loved a good furniture rearranging sesh. Just ask my mom- growing up, I used to switch up the furniture layout in my bedroom every other month.
If you have a room that feels blah, try rearranging the furniture layout.
Whether in the living room, bedroom, or even the dining room, moving things around is a surefire way to refresh any space without spending a dime.
Tip: Try to remove as many pieces from the room as you can to start with a blank slate, and then slowly add items back in starting with the rug and then the larger pieces.
5. Add Small Plants
One of the easiest and often overlooked ways to make a room feel fresh and inviting is with plants.
I usually stick with easy to care for plants (read: plants that love neglect) like Pothos and Snake Plants.
But if taking care of real plants stresses you out, there are some really great faux options these days.
