Leesa “Original” Mattress – Multilayer Foam
Let me start by saying that I’m not a professional mattress reviewer – just a gal with a hubby and a pup that need a comfy bed to sleep in.
I’m a hard working entrepreneur, and a mommy. Plus, my family leads an active lifestyle. So at the end of the day, getting a good night’s rest and recovery is imperative.
My husband and I have tried several different mattresses over the past 5 years, and none of them fit our needs perfectly. Traditional spring style mattresses have been too hard and bouncy, while memory foam options were too soft, and lacked support.
When a memory foam mattress is too soft, it feels like you’re sinking into the bed. This feeling almost gives me claustrophobia, like I’m going to get stuck in my own little body shaped indent!
My husband is a hot sleeper, and he usually doesn’t like memory foam because it tends to make him sleep even hotter.
However, the Leesa multi-layer foam mattress is different. It has proven to be more comfortable and supportive than other memory foam options we’ve tried. I don’t know how they did it, but Leesa has solved all of our mattress woes.
In my opinion, Leesa created the ultimate memory foam mattress. It has pillow soft comfort, yet it’s firm enough to be supportive. And, my husband was pleasantly surprised to find that this mattress didn’t make him overheat!
3 Layers of Foam + 1 Amazing Cover
The cover of a mattress seems like a silly thing to care about because it’s always hidden under bedding. But I think this soft breathable cover plays a role in making the Leesa mattress so comfortable, and cool.
I don’t know what it is about the soft gray twill cover, but I absolutely love it!
Inside the cover, the mattress is constructed by stacking 3 layers of specialized foam. Each layer is carefully selected for it’s density and IFD (indentation force-deflection) properties. Using the perfect foam in each layer is super important – it’s what separates Leesa from all their competitors. Here’s all the details on each layer:
Layer 1 (top)
IFD: 13 Density: 3.0
The top layer is 2″ of cooling foam. Leesa describes this layer as a “Breathable, responsive exclusive foam <that> sleeps cool, with the hug & bounce you want from a mattress.”
Layer 2 (middle)
IFD: 9 Dencity: 3.0
The middle layer measures 2 inches thick, and it serves as a contouring memory foam layer. This “Memory foam provides pressure-relief for a mattress that contours your body and relieves back, hip and shoulder pressure.”
Layer 3 (bottom)
IFD: 32 Density: 1.8
On the very bottom, “A supportive, foam base layer provides signature support and durability for sleepers of all shapes & sizes.” This bottom layer is important, because it serves as the foundation for the layers above it.

I highly recommend the Leesa Original mattress. A Cheaper Memory Foam Mattress Option
While I do truly believe in Leesa Mattress, I know that it may not be the ideal choice for everyone’s unique body type, or budget.
You may have heard of AmazonBasics, but did you know they make memory foam mattresses? Well, technically they don’t make them – they contract a factory to make custom mattresses to their specifications.
As you can imagine, Amazon has business connections with many of the world’s top companies. They’re able to leverage these connections to have amazing products made at reasonable prices, and they pass that savings on to you.
If you want a high quality memory foam mattress at an affordable price, the AmazonBasics Memory Foam Mattress is worth checking out. It has a 4.4 out of 5 star rating, and you won’t believe how cheap it is.

Does the Leesa Mattress Work With An Adjustable Base?
Yes! The Leesa Original Mattress can be used with any adjustable base (as long as the base is compatible with memory foam mattresses).
Leesa also makes their own adjustable base. It’s a premium product with high-end features like wireless remotes, and under-bed lighting. This base is made from high quality materials. It’s also designed, engineered and assembled in the USA.
This high quality adjustable base is made in the USA, which means it’s expensive.
As with any high-quality made in the USA product, it’s expensive. The base costs $1,299 for a queen and $2,299 for a king size. There’s a drastic price difference between the two because the king base is dual adjustable. Each side can be independently controlled.
We did not test the Leesa base, so I don’t have any first hand opinions about this product. The Leesa adjustable base is not available on Amazon – it’s only sold on the Leesa website here: Leesa Adjustable Base.
A Cheaper Adjustable Base Option
If you want a more affordable adjustable base, there’s tons of other options.
This Classic Brands Comfort Upholstered Adjustable Base is the #1 best seller on Amazon, and costs less than half as much as the Leesa adjustable base. It has an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars, and even includes massaging… whaaaa?

Fixed Bed Options
If you don’t want an adjustable base, you can put the Leesa mattress on any bed or mattress support that is designed to work with a memory foam mattress.
Leesa Platform Bed
The Leesa Platform bed is a simple, elegant solution. It’s crafted with clean looking minimalist style, and my favorite part is that it incorporates a mattress support into the bed!
This design eliminates the need for a box spring. If you’re a minimalist, or like the idea of simple is better, this bed base is for you!
Leesa only makes high quality products, so you can be sure this bed is extremely high quality. It’s guaranteed to fit your Leesa mattress perfectly, and comes with Leesa’s excellent warranty.

A Cheaper Bed & Headboard (My Favorite!)
The bed in all of these pictures is my absolute favorite – I always recommend it to anyone who’s curious! I’ve had this bed for several years, and it’s held up perfectly (which is great, because it’s a very inexpensive bed!)
I love the tufted button headboard, and the bed’s simplistic styling. It’s the perfect height, and like the Leesa Platform Bed, it includes a mattress support into the bed. This eliminates the need for a separate box spring.
I’ve linked the Zinus Tufted Button Bed and Headboard below:
Leesa Foundation (Box Spring)
The © Leesa Sleep company also makes base that’s simply named the “Lesa Foundation”. This is essentially just a box spring base (sans springs). It’s designed provide the perfect foundation for a memory foam mattress to sit on top of.
You can place the Leesa foundation on top of any bed frame (of matching size), or your favorite bed. If your current bed doesn’t have a slated wood memory foam support, this is a great option. Memory foam mattress are not supposed to bed placed on top of conventional box spring bases.
